Artists who want to represent a three-dimensional object on flat (two-dimensional) paper have three basic options: oblique, isometric, or linear perspective drawing. This math art project explores isometric perspective, as seen in many computer games (do a search for “isometric game art”).

Your students will learn to draw basic isometric shapes such as Minecraft blocks. They'll master the ambiguous "tumbling blocks" optical illusion.

And they'll learn to draw a shape that could never be built in the real world: the Penrose triangle.

This 26-page printable (pdf) activity book features six pages of instructions plus dotty and lined isometric paper in three sizes, with both portrait and landscape orientations.

Available with 8 1/2 x 11 (letter size) or A4 pages.

For ages 8 and up.
